RE: [A/S] Armstrong AC pooped out

The old Armstrong units have a reputation for being well built, and hence
serviceable.

Besides finding an old timer, you are also going to need some of the old
(outlawed) Freon. Some AC service folks may still have a stash of some.

The other approach would be to go to Mexico for the repair (or get some of
the old Freon outside the US).

Note that the old Freon was a FAR superior refrigerant than the replacement
stuff. (The heat transfer capability was significantly better, so that it
takes less work on the part of the compressor to produce the cold.)

Daze,

The Armstrong's are serviceable. Call around the local HVAC shops to see if
there is an ole timer who is willing to make the effort.

Except for being careful removing the cover the guts are conventional AC
stuff. As opposed to undersized, barely adequate RV air conditioning units.

We were always able to find the parts locally. Just had to have an HVAC guy
willing to make the effort. In every case, including replacing the
compressor, it was cheaper than replacing the whole thing.

FWIW
