[tabtrailers] RE: Camping Etiquette Stories / Pet Peeves

I didn't get a chance to read all messages on this thread but on top of my lists for LACK of camping etiquette has to do with public showers.

While visiting Glacier National Park in 2007 (the summer before we bought our T@B), we stayed at Rising Sun CG for a couple of nights and on one particular day after a 12 mile hike from Logan to Granite Park to The Loop we were in especially desperate need of showers.  At Rising Sun, there is just ONE shower each for Men and Women and the doors are locked at 10 PM.

We had bought our shower tokens and at 8:15 were at the back of the building to take our showers.  Waiting to use the showers were two men and three women.   Sharon and I got into our respective lines and waited.  By 8:40 Sharon was inside enjoying her shower, I was still in line with the same two men in front of me.  At 8:40 the person in the shower yells "Dad, I need one more shower token", then "Dad" joins him.  For the next 20 minutes there are sounds from the shower that reminded me more of pool hall than a shower.  A little after 9:00, the kid walks out and "Dad" is now solo in the shower.   By this time, there are three more men behind me waiting in line (and there is still one ahead of me).  My wife has long since finished her shower and is in the truck reading.

For the next 40 minutes, those of us in the queue are discussing the lack of consideration exhibited by the father and son team of shower hogs, not so loud for "Dad" to hear us for fear that he'll take even longer...  At 9:35 "Dad" walks out and says cheerfully, "Next!" and gets a "Thanks a lot, *******" from a few of us.

To finish the story, the guy before me is in and out in 3 or 4 minutes and I do the same, giving the remaining three, 5 minutes each.

NO EXAGGERATION!
