[tabtrailers] Re: electric receptacle above stove not working

Jerry,
No problem re name. I did chose and adopted the name Brigit so it is special to me, different spelling and all.
I bought it used. It had one owner who changed the cabinet doors and bought grey trim to replace what came on it originally. So it would not be surprising if she did have some electrical work done. There are two external outlets with little hatches on them on the door side, just behind the wheel.
This afternoon I'll drag out the cord and plug it in so I can test out each of the receptacles, and I'll get back to you.
I appreciate the input!
Brigit

If you bought it used, maybe the previous owner had done some rewiring. Maybe others can correct me if there were factory-installed external outlets in the earlier models, or when they started doing that.

If you have power at one outlet and not the other, and neither is a GFCI, then it must simply be a case of a bad receptacle, or a open in the wiring. I think they all are fed from the same circuit breaker.

A number of outlets which are supplied by one source can be protected by a single GFCI, if wired correctly. I have had only one experience with GFCIs, some years ago when one in a bathroom gave out and shut down outlets in kitchen and an upstairs bath. The GFCI has to be the first in the string of outlets supplied, so a ground fault in any one will cause it to shut off power to all. Is it possible the other duplex outlet in your T@B is a GFCI?

You don't need a special device to test the outlet for power--just plug in a night light or some other device to see if the power is there. The little outlet tester is still a good idea to check for power along with correct connections.

How could it get past that in any inspection when it was manufactured! If I plug into electricity and get one of those little devices that says whether there is juice to an outlet and it says No, is my nect step to replace the unit with a GFCI one?

I would not recommend using a larger adapter there. They can go bad, so it is possible it needs replacing, but only with another GFCI receptacle, and after trying to reset it. There may be something you plugged in that caused it to trip.

After we plugged in at the campground I noticed the little red indicator light was not lit, and nothing I plugged directly into the receptacle would work. I pulled and looked at all of the fuses and they look fine. The breaker switches had not tripped. Do you think I need to replace the receptacle?
