[tabtrailers] What's the best way to hang curtains?

I spent an hour at Ikea and ultimately failed. I forgot about the depth of the case the roller fits in. My idea was to hang a rod above the window (and case), letting it rest on two 3M hooks.

The other thing I could do is hang the 3M hooks on the plastic frame on each side of the window but unless I get a short hook, there will be a gap.

I want to hang curtains for privacy--the shades are great but sometimes I want the air to pass through.

Suggestions appreciated!
