Re: [tabtrailers] Blue Ridge Parkway

Just a note part of the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed over here by Rt I-40
Please check the web to be sure it will be open if anyone is coming this way.
Bonnie and I took it from Cherokee to I-40 but I think it is closed from there going North or east.. for a bit, then you can get back on going up into VA
Just FYI
We wanted to take it up a little farther and could not

Hi Eric,

I've traveled the entire length of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Skyline Drive, TWICE.  I love the Parkway!!!  I mentioned my trips in my earlier blog (with a Little Guy Teardrop) and this year with my T@B.    If and when I'm in the area, I'll probably always drive the Parkway.

Don't overlook seeing the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at the South end of the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Visit the attractions at Cherokee.

At the outskirts of Asheville, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, consider camping at Lake Powhatan campground.  It is extremely nice!!  A "Cradle of Forestry" campground and $15. per night if I remember correctly.

All the campgrounds are nice.  I agree with Duane when he says a week won't be long enough.  Be sure to visit the Biltmore Estate in Asheville (very expensive but beautiful gardens, too).  Visit each of the Visitor Centers, and the Blue Ridge Music Center (in Virginia).  Plan to stay for a concert.  Detour over (a few miles off the Parkway) to see Andy Griffith's "Mayberry."

Google Blue Ridge Parkway and follow the many links.  You'll be able to identify many places to stop.  Oh yes, a "must see" is the Mabry Mill and plan to eat in the restaurant.  If you hit the noon hour you'll have to wait but (IMHO) the food is delicious.

Hello Everyone,

I am contemplating a week of vacation for the summer next year and am considering the Blue Ridge Parkway as a trip for us. Has anyone traveled the whole parkway? Are there enough sights and things to do to fill a week-long trip? Are the campgrounds decent? Any information would be great.

Thanks,
Eric
