I recently asked my propane dealer here in Texas as my cylinders are
dated '99. He said something like "First reinspection at 12 years
and then every 5 years." So I ask how involved it would be and how
long it would take. He said, "No big deal, just takes a few
minutes." I think they change the safety decals and look it over for
dents and rust etc. Cost about $10 or so. So I think it makes sense
to get it done before you hit the road. Many places never check but
they are supposed too and may at the most inconvenient time. When I
had it done on some older tanks several years ago I think they just
stamped a new date on them. I have also had someone ask me to remove
it from my vehicle... don't remember where that was... could have
been in Florida.
