Hi Hunter,
Merry Christmas ... Sorry to hear of your heating problems...
Several things I have had happen to my trailer's LP furnace system that
cause symptoms similar to what you describe:
How old is your tank regulator? more than 5 years, it is suspect... Get a
technician to check flow volume or get a new regulator... (If you know
regulator is old, simply getting a new regulator and replacing is cheapest
and quickest solution)...
Why? Regulator on the tank gets old, springs and o-rings age and regulator
no longer passes adequate gas volume. When furnace is off, gas pressure in
line slowly builds up to normal level and when furnace ignites and starts
heating, gas pressure in lines drops below volume needed for furnace to
keep heating due to regulator not working properly allowing necessary
volume of gas to flow. (I believe LP regulators are recommended to be
changed every five years)...
Another possible problem is snap disk over temperature thermo-switch on
furnace plenum is failing, trips and doesn't reset until furnace is cooled
down lower than normal operating temperature causing furnace to shut
off. (In 2002, I installed a brand new Suburban LP furnace with this
problem. Called the dealer, he simply sent me a new switch, no questions
asked, so I suspect this may be a common problem).
This symptom can also be caused by blocked or restricted heating vents in
the trailer or a restriction in the primary heating duct such as a mouse
nest etc. which causes the plenum temperature to rise abnormally high. The
furnace needs its discharged heated air to flow freely out of it or it will
overheat rather quickly tripping the overtemp switch.
Insects/wasps having built nests in the air intake and exhaust ducts where
the ducts exit the trailer. Also, if furnace not used for a long period of
time, insects may get into the innards of furnace and build nests.
furnace air sail switch not working freely due to furnace not being
serviced regularly and gets sticky which will cause furnace to shut down
prematurely or not light (re-light?)...
And last but not least, if a Suburban furnace with control board mounted on
side under the cover, control boards so mounted have a history of frequent
failing...
Hope you get it working quickly, it should heat your trailer to comfortable
levels well into the mid 70 degF range or above...
Happy Holidaze!
