Airstream's are constructed by locking the floor into a perimeter
extrusion that completely surrounds the floor. The skin/frame is in turn
anchored to the perimeter extrusion completing the shell. As with the SS
everything above the floor inside the trailer is brought in through the
entry door.
Up until 1994 the side frame ribs were continuous from side to side
floor to floor. As you can see in the Co. factory tour at
http://www.airstream.com/company/factory/index.html the shells are now
built in five pieces, two ends, two sides and the top. But even now
everything inside comes in through the door. You can see the whole

I think A.S. put some things on the inside and built the trailer body around them? Not sure about that but think I'm partially right. The only wood inside the S.S. is the floor and bed frame and cabinet doors. The walls and cabinets etc. are all alluminum. This trailer comes in way under 3000 lbs. G.P.
