RE: [tabtrailers] Re: Time for a new Tow Vehicle...thoughts on small SUV?

You could also look and see if any dealers have any leftover 2010 Explorer Sport Tracs on the lot!!  I LOVE my Sport Trac.

Either the 4.0 V6 or 4.6 V8 are great towing engines for the T@B!!

In my opinion they ruined the Explorer with the 2011s and especially since the Sport Trac is no longer available.

My only contribution would be to consider Subaru Outbacks. But I don't know if they are considered SUVs, but they are a comfortable ride, outrageously functional, and if you get the 3.5L, you get the full 3000lbs tow. You have to look at the fine print on the 2.5 re: tow capacity, but from what I've learned and read, it doesn't make enough difference to matter.

I just upgraded to a 2011, and they don't offer a tow package, except for the hitch. I'm waiting to see if eventually there will be an aftermarket transmission cooler.

And if you get the model with the back up camera that appears in the rear view mirror, it makes hitching a cinch. As for backing up a TAB, that still is an art form to be mastered with practice.
