Hey Hunter,
Filling the existing hole before having the new hole drilled is the way to go. Otherwise you'll have to drill the new hole too close to the end of the bar.
Or, you could get yourself a ProPride and not worry about all that. <wink, wink> Rock Tamers fit on the 3P hitch bar. I sell them all the time with a standard hitch bar. <another two winks>
