Hola from San Juan, Puerto Rico!

Everything Everywhere Logo

Dear Marieta,

Hola from San Juan, Puerto Rico!

I've been in Puerto Rico now for about a week and a half as a guest of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company and the San Juan Marriott, enjoying the weather and exploring the islands (yes, there are more than one!).

I had a case of bronchitis that I picked up flying back from Thailand as soon as I hit cold weather in the US. I've had it for over a month, but as soon as I got to warmer climates, it just went away. Amazing what the power of sunlight and warm weather can do!

Tomorrow I'll be flying to New York for a the weekend before heading off to explore some of the island of Hawaii I haven't visited. In particular, I'll be a "new media artist in residence" on the Island of Lanai.

Keep traveling,

Gary

I also got to ride "La Bestia" (The Beast), the world's second longest (1.45km) and highest (900ft) zipline in the world. I even took a video of my entire ride down! [Read More...]

World Heritage Site of the Week
World Heritage Site #10: Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu

Five hundred years of Ryukyuan history (12th-17th century) are represented by this group of sites and monuments. The ruins of the castles, on imposing elevated sites, are evidence for the social structure over much of that period, while the sacred sites provide mute testimony to the rare survival of an ancient form of religion into the modern age. The wide- ranging economic and cultural contacts of the Ryukyu Islands over that period gave rise to a unique culture.
