Jim,
About six years ago I replaced the original furnace in my 1964 Ambassador
International with a NT-34... It works great but creates much more heated
volume of air than the original ducting in the trailer was designed to
handle. I ended up having to modify and add ducts in order to keep the
furnace from overheating due to the lack of duct volume restricting the
furnaces capability to get the heat it was generating out into the
trailer via the original ducts.
Also, a bigger furnace means a bigger blower and the more 12 VDC power it
draws... I think the blower in the NT-34 draws 7.5 Amps... On a cold
winter night here in New England, that's a pretty substantial drain on the
battery...
The result of restricted flow was causing the furnace overtemp snap disk to
shut it down every couple of minutes and in a short time caused the
overtemp snap disk to fail... This forced me to fix the ducting problem
and fortunately the dealer I'd bought the furnace from replaced the
snapdisc thermoswitch under warrantee...
Also, a bigger furnace means a bigger blower and the more 12 VDC power it
draws... I f I remember correctly, the blower in the NT-34 draws 7.5
Amps... On a cold winter night here in New England, that's a pretty
substantial drain on the battery...
If I were to do it again, I'd use a smaller furnace closer to the size of
the original one...
But it sure do heat the trailer up nice and toasty... Takes it about 5
minutes at freezing temps and I'm in shirt sleeves...
