Mount Evans in Colorado is the highest paved road in North America.

It's 14,240 feet. It isn't a through road, but what a view from atop the
world. I have been there a few times, and it is definitely a steep haul. The
last time I was there I had to have my wife hang on to me to walk as the winds
were so strong that she couldn't walk on her own at the summit. The other
times the weather was just glorious.
