If your cat or and other animal has the unfortunate possibility of getting stressed for any reason, you might consider investing in a bottle of Rescue Remedy found a most health food stores. It is for humans and pets and nice to give by mouth or rub on their foreheaded. Even with horses a few small drops can be rubbed on their muzzle and it calms them down.
Rescue Remedy is made by Bach Flower Essences. Edward Bach, MD discovered that flowers are very powerful...mildly so...but help with various personalities. There are 38 flower essences plus Rescue Remedy (a mixture of about 4 or 5 flowers). There are usually two size bottles but both bottles are small. The dropper has a crooked tip and should never been touched by anything. Always allow the drop or drops to leave by falling into the mouth or the palm of the hand. This will keep it from getting contaminated. Some pet owners like to place a few drops in the water dish (spring water only is the best as distilled water is dead water and tap water is chlorinated) daily. This water dish needs to be changed daily to keep it fresh for the pet(s).
These remedies are not sedative liquids but rather are noted for personality traits. Anyone can research them online and may find it an interesting read. Again, these have the reputation for mild use but helpful use.
I personally have used them on various occasions and made suggestions to others who have found them very helpful for themselves and their pets. Again, I would suggest using google to find more about these natural remedies.
Remember that cats tend oraly drool when given anything with alcohol as part of the contents. These remedies have a small amount. Depending on each animal, they may react differently. I personally have given a drop or two to my cats and have seen no drooling. But this is a cautionary note so owners need to be aware of this reaction. Face it, cats don't make good alcoholics.
Another option that is helpful is if an owner finds they would rather not give this by mouth, a new and clean small spray bottle (best if glass or steel as all plastics having chemicals) {I am speaking on the side of a "purest" of sorts yet not exactly practical in this day and age....so one may find plastic the only solution} needs to be purchased. I usually place about 1/4 to 1/2 C of spring water in the bottle. Four to eight to twelve drops can be added to the bottle. Then this can be used to spray the room of the house, trailer, car, etc. for upto 24 hrs. This allows more of an indirect way of "soothing" the atmosphere of the room. Novality approach and can be just as effective in my opinion pets and owners.
Some folks find it helpful during holidays when having relatives over or similar situation.
Just some info you might find helpful on your travels or other.

Subject: [A/S] travel with pet cat
I am planning to take my cat on an extended vacation with my Airstream this spring. She has me trained to take her outside on a leash, we go for walks around the house. She seem not to mind the harness and leash so that is a good start. Any tips on traveling with a cat?
