Re: [tabtrailers] Re: What do we think about renting out our T@Bs?

I have a small trailer rental busness, motorcycle trailers. You can set things up to have the renters insurance cover the trailer. Also have a credit card from the renter to cover damage. Alan is right have a lawyer help with the paper work, waivers and releases. Get copies of drivers license and insurance cards. I have had a number of trailer damaged, everyone thinks they can back up a trailer until they try. Many have ask to rent your T@b but I don't rent it out. Good luck with what you do.

It sounds like maybe you should just sell it and you be the renter of an RV when you want to go out. If you rent it will your insurance cover for that? I doubt it. You'd be wise to write up a formal contract with the renters and have a lawyer look it over. To me $250/wk doesn't sound so great considering the damage that could be done. What if some renter drives off with the brake on and destroys your axle and brakes? That's a $1500.00 dollar (approx) expense someone has to pay for and good luck getting that kind of money (or any money) out of a renter. That also brings us back to your insurance. Will they cover that. Doubt it. What about you being liable for something that causes an accident and/or someones hurt or worse? To me it doesn't sound reasonable to offset a $10k debt with a $250 dollar per pop possible high risk attempt to pay down that debt. How many times per season will it actually be rented, too, once or twice? How are you going to advertise? How much will advertising cost you? You might be able to rent it through an RV dealer maybe on a consignment type thing and fall under their insurance. Maybe? But then the dealer will be eating heavily into your profits.

My two cents.

We still owe close to 1ok on our '07 clamshell, and we use it for 2 serious vacations and a couple of short getaways per season. If we "qualify the customer" beforehand, why not advertise it for rent to the tune of...I don't know, $250/week to a couple who has a serious interest? Any thoughts?
