I know that there are a number of folks that tow a 30' or more travel trailer with a 1 ton truck (SRW or DRW) and do not use any weight distributing (WD) or sway control (SC) hitch.
I do not recommend this practice to anyone...friend or foe. As I had noted earlier, a perfectly balanced trailer in a perfect world will not sway....until it is influenced by an outside force, such as a ridge in the road, a sudden cross wind in a mountain pass or on a bridge. If the outside force is to drastic, the rig will still be unstable and can get into a sway situation.
Therefore I use the Reese Dual Cam Straitline with the 800# WD bars. It is cheap insurance for that 1 time in 1000 or what ever the number may be.
Since the rear suspension on my 1 ton dually is so stiff, I use the 800# bars with my trailer and Dual Cam hitch to let the truck carry a bit more of the weight on the rear and load up the rear suspension. The trailer behaves beautifully and has never wiggled due to trucks or a cross wind. One thing that did help with the truck was when I added the bed cap. It is much more streamlined.
What it all boils down to is to know your trailer weights, set up the hitch correctly and having an ADEQUATE tow vehicle.
