Yes, it generally more of a problem to pull with a short wheelbase vehicle than with a longer wheelbase. I have been the route of a Ford Explorer and an S-15 Jimmy with a travel trailer. I could get the trailer well balanced where it would tow reasonably well, but it was still more work than having an adequate vehicle.
An expensive sway control hitch can help cover up a problem with a poorly balanced trailer and/or inadequate truck.
All to many people getting into RVing have no technical background and have to rely on the advice of the dealers. The dealer is generally not the place to get good trailering advice.
More truck is always the better route to take over not enough truck.
