I seem to have fallen over a golden opportunity to
buy a 'vintage' tow vehicle. Here is what I have found:
For $3200!!!
1987 Ford F350 Diesel Ambulance
6.9L International Diesel Engine
4 Speed Auto Trans
3.7 Rear end
Heavy Duty everything, brakes, trans cooler, dual batteries.....
36,000 Verified miles!
Garage kept, since NEW
It even looks NEW
Has FULL maintenance records, since NEW
Has had the 'enhanced' emergency vehicle maintenance & complete manuals.
As shade-tree mechanics go, I am pretty good. Other than a couple
tiny paint chips, I can't find a thing wrong with it.
It has the usual fire dept little cube body, with heat A/C, AC
power. (I think this would easily solve my where to put
my tools, bbq, canoe etc)
Here is my dilema:
I can't find anything that lists this specific power train and
chassis with a tow rating. I think this is partially due to age
and not being a 'standard' vehicle. Extapolating from the closest
info I can find, I am estimating 12000-14000 Lbs, allowing for
the weight of the box body.
Can someone knowledgable give me a little input, before
I pull out the check book? Even allowing for maybe having
more idling time, I tend to think this is a winner, even
if I have to put a $1200 Earl Scheib paint job on it.
