Re: [tabtrailers] Minivan towing height [1 Attachment]

Greetings,

Quite frankly, I never measured my hitch height.   (Shame, shame on me!!)  But I had a slight dip between the vehicles.  I still do!!  To be on the safe side, I bought new tires before I started my long trip (April 2010).  I bought a size larger so it raised the back of the KIA two inches.  Discount Tire could make that change but a KIA dealership, or Sam's Club, or Wal-Mart would only replace with original....  I have a KIA Sportage (mid-size SUV).

Hello! I have not yet received my Curt Class 2 Hitch so I cant take any measurements yet. I read where optimal ball height is 16-17". My minivan is only 12" from the bottom bumper to the ground and this is without the hitch installed which of course will be even lower. Those of you who tow with a minivan or similar low clearance vehicle, do you use a 4" rise for the ball mount? My 12" of clearance I have now plus the 4" rise only gives me 16" but I wont actually have 12" starting clearance from the hitch. I havent found a 6" rise so I'm thinking they dont exist. It looks like I will probably be around 14" or maybe even a tad less with my minivan once e'thing is installed and hooked up. Is that an issue? We can install helper air bags on our Sienna if need be to raise the rear up a little.

Thanks!
Melissa
