I made a dark fabric padded square that fits the dimensions of the ceiling fan. I actually used double fabric with a bit of batting between them. I made a "buttonhole" in it so we could slip that over the big knob, and used the 3M removable contact strips to secure it to the fan when we want to darken the T@B. The velcro type contact strips are adhered to the edges of the fan and directly onto the fabric. The buttonhole thing helps hold it up there, too.
I would be concerned about using the velcro against the ceiling fabric that it might cause it to become "fuzzy" after time, but since I haven't tried that, I can't say it's so.
