[tabtrailers] Re: Memory foam for cushions

We have never used the table in our T@B. We leave our cushions down in the bed position all the time. I took out the table and installed a hardwood slab support system. This cut way back on weight and opened the area under the bed for storage. To protect the cushions that came with the camper and to make a more comfertable nights sleep, I went to Brothers Bedding in Knoxville, TN and had a topper mattress custom made useing "memory foam". I'm guessing you're talking about a top of the line Tempurpedic like foam because that's what I used. Our topper has a half inch layer of "memory foam" sewn into the top and bottom with a mattress like diamond pleat material on the outside... double roped edges just like on our $2600.00 mattress at home. In the middle is a 2 inch layer of the same foam. Now that is what we sleep on and it was not cheap. I believe it cost around $480.00. We of course keep sheets and a comforter on the bed. Because I liked the look of having foam cushions along the wall I ordered several pieces of Luxury Foam from The Foam Factory. Because of the topper this foam did not need to be as tall as the wall cushions that came with the camper. Luxury Foam is not the same as the very expensive Tempurpedic like foam but it is still a top of the line foam. You can find Luxury Foam or just about any other kind of foam at...
http://www.thefoamfactory.com/.
I had the pieces of Luxury Foam covered in top grade black leather. James' Upholstery in Maryville, TN did the work. James is a master upholsterer. He was referred to me by Chilhowee RV. I was going to have James cover the Luxury Foam with a similar materal like the original cushions. Once I was at his shop I saw work he was doing on a pair of custom bucket seats for a muscle car. The man is an artist working with leather. One look was all it took so it had to be leather covered cushions along both walls and the back of the camper for me. This ran me another $500.00 but as far as I'm concerned it was all well worth it. We now have a topper mattress we can take out of the camper and air when we need to and the leather adds a touch of class that goes perfect with the other custom work I've done to the interior of our T@B. I'm sure this is more information than you needed but this system work very well for us. As I said this did not come cheap but it was a lot cheaper than replacing all the foam cushions that came with the camper with a 4" to 6" Tempurpedic type of foam. That would have been several thousand dollars. By the way, when I started this project, I contacted Dutchman about the company that made the "Moonstone" material that came with our camper. This company is no longer in biz and there was no more of the materal to be found anywhere. Because of this, if you do get foam from the Foam Factory and decide to go with a simalr materal, like that which came on your T@B's cushions, you'll only be able to find a pattern that is close. It would be a great supprise to me if you find an exact match because, trust me I looked everywhere. LOL! I suggest a solid color to match your existing cushions. Anything else will just look "too busy".
