[tabtrailers] Re: New Battery

I bought my last battery at Sears last Spring - an RV battery for about $75. It charges fine, maintains the charge and runs everything inside the T@B. You don't have to spend the extra money for a 'super' battery - they last for about 4 to 5 years either way. Just keep it charged during the winter by either plugging your trailer into an electric out or put the battery on a float charger.

Some basic advice is in the TrBatteryFundamentals.pdf document. I use a single Optima BlueTop AGM for most of our usage, which is adequate for most normal travel and overnight usage (several days if light duty), though I also have another wired in the back of our tow vehicle with a cut-off switch, for longer stays without shore power. Be sure to get in the habit of keeping your T@B battery plugged into a float voltage source when not in use, or at least remove the ground lead to keep the parasitic loads from draining it faster than normal. I recommend Sam's Club (and Costco?) for good prices for your replacement battery. A benefit of the AGM battery is that it is sealed, rugged and maintenance-free, except for the need to keep it charged, like any other lead-acid battery. If you usually stay at campgrounds with electrical hookups, there is no need for a huge heavy battery.
