Our big cap seals so tightly we can hold a full tank upside down without any leaking. Our big cap has a circlular gasket in it that makes a good seal. Do you not have a gasket? You might be able to find one at a hardware or plumbing store.
We tighten it (added to our teadysettow list) before we travel and have to loosen it so the water flows right when camped.
