[tabtrailers] Re: Fridge When Towing -- Full or Empty?

After unpacking mucho amounts of un eatten food one more time just this week I am now NOT going to take anything with me anymore that I won't eat within 2 days! I brought back bread, lunchmeat, extra yogurt, and fruit this time ..

We ate out way too much on this 2 week camping trip BUT! then again ,,it is the way to SEE where you are traveling to. You meet so many neat folks when you stop at a small town restaurant or even a fast food place in a fun town!

When we packed our TAB or TADA frig, we never turned the battery feature on because we'd forget to turn it off when we would stop for a few mintues.

The one time we used the battery feature, we blew out something???? who knows what? and the frig wouldn't cool down again all that trip.

So we never used the battery feature after that.It really was only to maintain, not really cool the frig down when it got warmer!

Using a cooler is a pain but that was what I did on long trips.I use frozen water in 2 liter pop bottles for out ice and there is NO mess!

They leave lots of room for food to be stored alongside them in our cooler.

Some rv places have even allowed me to refreeze the water over night in their freezer? :) nice of them don't you think? a couple bucks for a tip went a long way, cause we can usually get about 3 days of cold on one freezing!~~~~ Just tryin' to matter~~~~ Terry

We would buy lunch meats, for example, and rather than the plastic containers some of them came in would choose the ones with resealable plastic bag type packaging. Milk in the door, etc. and never a spill. Even when we came THISCLOSE to hitting a guy on his bicycle when he decided to make a u-turn across the road just as we came up nearly beside him. The only thing that happened was that our little laptop fell out of the back small cupboard (in our TQ). It was in a padded case, so there was no damage. Except for our nerves!

We know we can keep the fridge turned on on when towing (set to battery power and turned off when stopping for a while), but we are concerned about leaving food in the fridge. Visions of a mess to clean up pop into our heads -- spilled milk, broken bottles of (fill in the blank). Even with our new shocks, there is apt to be some bouncing around.

Another might be leave the food in the fridge but pad it, as when one packs a box for mailing. Stuffing wadded newspaper or packing paper in the fridge occurred to me, but there may be a better solution. On the other hand, maybe the bounces from towing are not, on a practical level, a problem.
