[tabtrailers] Re: Ma to NM. Dogs????

When I travelled with my miniature poodle, I had him in a travel cage that was attached to the safety belt in the back seat. He used to like to ride in my lap before I bought the T@B.

I remember coming up on the scene of an accident, and after asking the lady sitting on the side of the road if there was anything in the car she wanted - she mentioned her purse and her dog. The purse was on the floor in the front and thankfully, the small dog was in a carry crate in the back seat, which was now in the floor. Given the impact of the two vehicles, and the fact that the little dog was safe and alive - "shaken not stirred" - I decided that Brandy would no longer ride in my lap. I wanted him safe and secure if I should be in an accident - especially when towing the T@B.

I never feed the dogs before leaving, so if we leave late, I feed them early the day we are going. We carry waste bags in a little container on the leash we got at the dollar store and bag refills so they are always with us. A long retractable lead and shorter individual leads. Pack their vet papers, recent photos and make sure you tape an address label /cell phone number on their collar if you don't have their addresses on a medallion in case they wander off. We have also brought a doggy playpen. We set them up in a kennel for a day trip like to a museum or amusement park. If you do plan to do that, they need to have the kennel cough vaccine. Generally, for shopping, we take turns going into shops. We always
