Re: [A/S] Re: Sea Air on my AS?

I was in the Air Force and worked aircraft maintenence for 31 years. All of
our aircraft near salt water environments suffered extensive corrosion.
While stationed in Guam we instituted a rinse policy for every aircraft
after landing to help preserve the structure. Out best preventive measure
was to rotate aircraft back to the states on a scheduled basis. Of course
the corrosion factor on Guam was much worse than it will be in Texas. In
just a year on the island even the staples on my checkbook had rusted.
As others have mentioned, the further you stay from the water the better and
a weekly rinse of the trailer would certainly help. I'd recommend checking
with a marine store and pick up some soap they make specifically to remove
salt. Be sure to clean wheel wells, under the trailer as far as you can and
as much as the frame as you can access. If your rig has a storage locker in
the back bumper, be sure to rinse that out too. Keep all of your door and
window locks and mechanisms lubricated and protected and occasionally wipe
down the inside of the trailer with water. The air will corrode your
aluminum window frames and any other exposed metal inside and out.

I admit that this is an extreme example. I spent 30 years in the aircraft
insurance industry. Aircraft are aluminum. An aircraft submerged in fresh
water is cleaned thoroughly and returned to service. An aircraft submerged
in salt water, even if only for a very short time is automatically
considered a total loss.

Please remember, I am not a lawyer and the information you have just
received may be worth exactly what you paid for it.
