FWIW, I've used both water based and non water based poly and non water
base is much stronger......

I don't like a shiny finish so I always put two coats of high gloss
first, then the third coat I use satin.

Tony has no dogs, so water based is fine, but if you have dogs you
really want the heavy duty stuff.
