A wireless "Air Card" is a cellphone Hunter. It's a cellphone minus the
phone part, so it just uses the cellular carrier's data pipe. It can't
make cellphone calls. It's the same as using your phone tethered.

I have several of these, and some are better than others.

The down side is that it's treated like a separate device, so you need
another data package. If you tether your smart phone, you still get the
data pipe, have a phone too, and pay for one device. On the other hand
you can plug your Air Card into a CradlePoint router and then share the
connection between several devices (wired or wireless).

Air Cards are secure. These have nothing to do with WiFi, which is
absolutely not secure unless you are VPNing to somewhere secure and then
out from there.
