Nope. The issue I was talking about was when Google street-level photo cars
snooped and stored all of the WiFi traffic on open access points as they drove
around and then used the data for marketing. They lost that one, as even
though an access point is open the traffic is not in the public domain and it's
still theft of service if you piggyback or snoop. But as you said, not that
hackers care.

VPN to a secure endpoint and then out to the Internet via secured link is
something anyone can do. I think you misunderstood the concept of what I was
suggesting. I do this always on a WiFi hotspot. VPN to home and a Linux box
there and then out via secure connections to wherever I want to go. (Obviously
whenever possible.)

Yep. Still, BankAmerica ShopSafe is a lot easier than having a credit card
provider cancel a card and then have to get you a new one after you've been
scammed.

Anyway, time to kill the thread on the list. Probably boring way too many list
