Great suggestions, thanks! BTW I did talk with the folks at Fantastic Fan, and offered to be their beta tester on their fan vent cover, but I don't think they were ready for me:-) He did say I could use the MaxxAir 2, which was developed for fan vents, but as you said, they are concerned about reducing airflow to the motor and overheating. I wonder if you just removed a few of those plastic separators if it would bring in enough air? The only reason I think they are helpful is to reduce rain, keep the vents open all the time you are traveling, and keep the vent covers from blowing off, (which happened to me in Montana during a thunderstorm, btw).

I think cork flooring is the way to go. Ripping out the carpet is going to be a chore!
