I have a 1972 Silver Streak and love it, live in it full time and find it to be a really quality build. Few, if any issues have come my way in the past year.
I now have a florescent ceiling fixture in the front of the trailer that is no longer working. It came on gradually, with one of the two florescent tubes flickering, then going black. It then moved to coming on for a blink or two then nothing.
My logical first thought was tube burn out. I went to PP&L here in Houston and bought 4 new florescent bulbs (at a cost of $26 dollars). I replaced both tubes in the fixture and it was no better than the old bulbs. I checked the swithch at the wall and on the switch on the lamp base, both work fine.
I then decided to take this thing apart and started looking for a starter canister, only to find that the ceiling mount fixture had no such thing.
Instead, I was surprised to find a whole group of transistor things with lots of little wires toward the middle of the mount. Easy to get to but I don't have a clue where to start trying to figure out what is not working.
Any of you guys have an experience with something like this. While I was at PP&L I saw new ceiling mount fixtures similar to mine so I know I can replace the whole thing.
But, I wonder if there is a fix here and is it within my scope of abilities to find and fix what is wrong. I am also not beyond taking this down and shipping it off to be repaired if it makes any economic sense at all.
This is probably stupid, but my rig is completely original and I am reticent replacing original stuff if at all possible.
