[A/S] Lowering water pressure regulator in 1979 Safari

In adjusting the water pressure in my Airstream, after loosening the locking nut is the center bolt turned clock-wise into the regulator or counter-clockwise out of the regulator? Generally speaking how many turns of the adjuster would be necessary to lower from ninety PSI to forty or fifty PSI?

I'm using an aftermarket pressure regulator on the curbside connection, but sometimes this doesn't lower it enough.
