Dear Marieta, Hello from Los Angeles, California! Since my last email I few from Quito, Eduador across the Pacific Ocean to Auckland, New Zealnad to watch the finals of the Rugby World Cup....and back to the United States. My trip to New Zealand was sponsored by Qantas Airlines who is the sponsor of the Australian National Rugby Team: The Wallabies. I managed to watch the semifinals, bronze medal and finals match of the world cup. The New Zealand All Blacks beat France for their first world cup victory in 24 years. In addition to the rugby I also managed to go bungee jumping off the Auckland Harbor bridge, went sailing on an America's cup class boat, swam with sharks and went to the horse races for the first time in my life. Not a bad week :) I'll be in the Los Angeles area for the next two weeks working, writing and editing photos. I'll also be speaking at Blog World Expo in Los Angeles on November 5. After that I'm off to London! Keep Traveling! Gary New at the Website The Rugby World Cup I am writing this on the Sunday morning of the finals of the Rugby World Cup in Auckland, New Zealand. Tonight's final match will be the New Zealand All Blacks vs. Les Bleus of France. [Hear it now...] World Heritage Site of the Week World Heritage Site #12: Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Genbaku Dome) From the World Heritage Inscription: "The Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Genbaku Dome) was the only structure left standing in the area where the first atomic bomb exploded on 6 August 1945. Through the efforts of many people, including those of the city of Hiroshima, it has been preserved in the same state as immediately after the bombing. Not only is it a stark and powerful symbol of the most destructive force ever created by humankind; it also expresses the hope for world peace and the ultimate elimination of all nuclear weapons." There isn't much to say about the Peace Park in Hiroshima which I haven't said before. |
