Jon,
It would be inadvisable to remove the batteries from your coach and
continue to apply 120V AC to the coach. Unless the original converter
has been replaced it will likely result in damage to the converter. If
the converter has been replaced with a newer one you should do some
research to ensure it can operate without a battery connected.
Up until recently the original equipment converters Airstream used were
engineered to depend on the load of the battery. Without that load the
converters ability to regulate voltage and filter out spikes was
seriously degraded. It not only risked damage to the converter but to
other 12V devices as well. In particular the furnace blower motor.

Can I, without causing any damage, remove the batteries to warm storage, cover the terminals with electrical tape and leave the trailer plugged into shore power for the winter? I'd like to have the 110 lights working and use an electric heater if we should happen to have an overnight guest. Thanks much
