Pilot Access cap: Also, if anyone is familiar, I am looking at the
access cap to the pilot which has a screw down metal cap about 1-1/2"
Diameter with a hole in it. It looks to me like it might have had a
piece of glass in it originally. Does anyone know if it had glass in it,
or if it should be open like it is now?
I believe I can address this part. The original cap had a piece of mica
in it. It is/was a very fragile piece but it could stand the heat from
the burner.
At no time should there be a hole from the burner chamber into the
coach. This would allow carbon monoxide to infiltrate the coach.
Very few if any RV furnace manufacturers anticipated or designed their
products to last 20 + years. While many of us have successfully used
older units at a minimum you should install a carbon monoxide detector
in the coach. Others would recommend you replace a furnace that old.
