From I was told by a professional exterminator, mice (and other critters) will stay where cats live & I think an easy way to avoid or get them to move on would be to ask friends to brush their kitty (especially long haired 1s) & save the fur to put in a nylon-net bag that has been rubbed on the cat --- then put the bags around vent openings or problem areas. Not sure if it would work but wouldn't hurt either (unless you're allergic to cat dander!).
We've always had cats & never had an issue with any kind of "critters" in anything we own (trailer, house, garage, etc.) when our friends & neighbors have.
