Well I took a large step today, I bought a tow vehicle.
I found a 95 Suburban 1500 2WD that has an entire 57,000
miles on it. It was never even fitted with a hitch.
I am very good as an auto mechanic but I went as far as hiring
a shop to re check it. They came up with the same conclusion
I did, the thing is for real, nothing was doctored.
Oddly enough, the thing is the absolute base model. The only option
in it is the rear seat heat & A/C. So.... It looks like I have a winter/spring
project, doing a mid-life refit and minor overhaul on the thing. I am
planning to replace all the belts, hoses, brakes, add a trans cooler,
bucket seats, hitch, up to date radio, GPS, and maybe a ham radio.
I am soliciting opinions here. What should I install for a brake controller?
Is it a worthwhile idea to install cruise control? Is there anything else I
should add. If anyone has any suggestions, do's or don'ts I'd sure like to
hear them. The A/S's I expect to be looking at are around 4500lbs.
All indications are that should be well within the towing capacity of my
new toy.
