That would work if you can seal them up well enough. Easiest way would be
to open the outside door and use a dremel or similar tool to cut from just
inside the door opening. After closing the door you would have to use a
fair amount of sealant as the door isn't very weather tight. Adding
insulation after removal and putting a patch on the inside would complete
the job. I did the whole removal to save the doors for others which were
quickly snatched up.

Yes, that's more or less what I had in mind. But I'm thinking of keeping one of the doors usable as an access point for connectors that have to go outside, like the weather station, shortwave antenna and maybe a wind generator. Sort of a patch panel that would be sealed and insulated. The drain holes at the bottom would serve as a wire way so it could be very neat and clean.
After looking at battery boxes on the internet I've decided that I don't have room for them. The licensed and bonded electrician that did the original installation didn't feel one was necessary and the battery guy (that I bought the batteries from) didn't either. A battery box would have to be fan cooled increasing the complexity. These LifeLine batteries do not vent gases or leak acid (they are often mounted on their side to make connections easier).
Thanks for giving me your thoughts,
Tony
