Re: [A/S] Need advice on hitch wiring

yep u r doing the right thing, however airstream & argosy had a wierd wireing code from 1961 - about 1981 and when i used the todays wireing code i had my brakes on full time when pluged into my pick-up. a few weeks ago someone posted airstreams wire code and i used it and it corrected my problem. So let me give it to u so u don't go thru what i went thru.
modren-wht. ( common ground ) = argosy wht.
modern-blue ( brakes ) = argosy yellow
modren-green ( tail & running lights ) = argosy green
modern-black ( charge line ) = argosy blue
modern-red ( left turn & stop ) = argosy red
modern-brown ( right turn & stop ) = argosy brown
modern-yellow ( back up lights ) = argosy black
i sure hope this helps u out, i was greatful when i found it. happy camping

Subject: [A/S] Need advice on hitch wiring

Having just mounted the hitch onto my 95 Suburban, I need a little
practical advice. I gather that Airstream used a 7 pin plug from
the early 60's through 79, that was other than the 'standard'  7 blade
in general use today. Then they switched to a 9 pin for a couple years,
then back to a 7 pin.....

I am inclined to think that the practical thing to do would be to
install a 7 blade socket, wired to the current standard, on my Suburban.
Then when I do acquire the trailer, rewire the trailer's plug to match the
current standard. Of course, this assumes that the trailer hasn't been
'creatively rewired' to something all together different.

Does what I am planning to do make sense, in terms of the 'real world',
of RV s?
