You do know about the wooden safety block?

I think I have both a picture and possibly dimensions. Mine is cut from
a block of iron wood, it fits behind the grab handle and extends over
the door to keep it closed. Not as elegant as a dead bolt, I had one of
those but the ground down latch broke so I went for keeping it simple.
This requires no modification to the trailer, and when you stop it can
disappear.

Even a working door latch isn't a sure bet against the door flying open
underway.
