Mitch & Hunter - I don't claim any intimate knowledge re HD. I'm only repeating what the Direct TV people told me over the phone and was also confirmed by the new dish / new receiver installer - and that was that (a) Direct had more programming in HD than their competition (OK, I know sales bs when I hear it) and (b) thatif the picture on my new LCD / HD TV screen was anything LESS than the full area of the screen (normally on the left & right of the screen), the program was not being broadcast in HD. Conversely, if the entire TV screen was being used, the programming was in HD. I know, that sounds so simplistic. But that is what I was told. That and the clarity on the new TV, in HD or not is SOOO much better than the older TV. Though, as I sit here typing this out, I am aware of just how silly I must have been to taken their word for the HD service.
Just so happens I like TCM also, and watched "Judgement at Neurenburg" just last nite, starring ole Spencer Tracey!! Simply a great old film that ought to be a part of every child's History class at some point, lest we forget. FWIW, the entire screen was filled, but how could such an old movie be in HD?
Proof I was lied to? Now where's that old over 'n under? Do I still have any shells? Quote" Hello, is this Direct TV? Could you please send that same HD dish 'n receiver installer back out here?"
I always take life with a grain of salt . . . . plus a slice of lime & several shots of a very good chilled tequila.
