One of our family's favorite memories involved Winnemucca. Some years ago we
stayed overnight (motel) there and had a delightful dinner at one of the
Basque restaurants there. We then drove out to the desert north of town to
look for one of the famous comets at the time. There was no light
"pollution" and the stars were incredibly brilliant. We were sitting there
with our lights off, looking up at the sky when coyotes started howling--all
around us! It was a great experience and the kids loved it.

You'll find a Walmart in Winnemucca if you are only interested in an
overnight. I also suggest you look at the Walmart RVing Yahoo group.
All sorts of information with respect to overnighting at Walmarts all over
the country. If you don't make it to Winnemucca, there's also one in
Fallon, where I live, where you can overnight. You should come up US
95 from Lone Pine, through Fallon. It's a long run from Lone Pine to
Winnemucca!
