Harbor Freight sells a receiver-mounted bike carrier. I mounted a front
receiver on my Dodge 3500, but then found the bikes obstructed my field
of view more than I wanted. They also sell a big "basket" carrier that
might carry the bikes OK. I have one of those but haven't tried tying
the bikes to it yet. I worry a little about things I can't see riding up
front.
I wouldn't worry about the few pounds a couple of bikes would add to the
rear of the trailer. I successfully carried bikes on the back of my AS
when my kids were little. That particular AS had a rear bathroom and
carried the holding tank at the rear, IIRC. No spare tire, though.

Have been told that it is not good to add the extra weight to the back of the trailer (we already have a spare tire back there !). So are considering trying to find a "front mounted rack" that would go in front of the grill on our truck (we have a friend who carries his motorcycle that way).
