Re: [A/S] Misc. pre-flight checklist…less expensive solution found

Lew,
She is running a Mac Pro (Apple's large professional tower platform). Her Mac Pro may be running SCSI drives (depending on vintage and how it was ordered) as these machines are primarily for heavy duty graphic computing and used the fastest technology available at the time of manufacturing.

As her Mac Pro has Firewire (over 2X the speed of USB) ports on it (Apple invented Firewire), I suggest that she purchase an external Firewire drive and use Super Duper (a Mac app) to clone the failing drive. She can then boot and run off the external drive until she decides how to proceed with either a new machine (she is considering such due to space issues for the Mac Pro) or a new internal hard drive. Regardless, she can then use the external drive as a backup using Apple's standard TIme Machine capability once she decides on the replacement question.
