Top 5 Thailand’s History Place

Posted: 12 May 2012 12:05 PM PDT

Top 5 Thailand’s History Place | Thailand is filled with well-preserved ruins from past centuries. These five places are the country's top destinations if you're interested in delving into Thailand's history.

1) Ban Chiang

Ban Chiang, near Udon Thani in Isan, is home to the oldest prehistoric bronze-age settlements ever found in Southeast Asia. Since its discovery in 1966 scientists have dated pottery fragments, bones and other artifacts discovered in Ban Chiang as far back as 2000 BC. Visitors can walk through the excavation sight and tour the Ban Chiang Museum's collection of skeletons, pottery, and other objects found here.

2. Phimai

The Phimai temple in Nakhon Ratchisima Province, Isan, marks one end of the ancient Khmer Highway connecting this amazingly well-preserved, massive sandstone sanctuary to Angkor Wat in Cambodia. The Thai temple was built by King Jayavarman VI when the Khmer empire extended into Thailand and is an excellent example of Khmer architecture at its best.

3. Sukhothai

Thailand's first independent state made its capital here in the Northern part of the country. Though power soon shifted south to Ayutthaya, well-preserved ruins at Sukhothai Historical Park are a testament to the Kingdom's strength. The quiet park, in an otherwise sleepy part of the country, is a great place to explore over a weekend and there are a handful of boutique resorts to stay at and direct flights from Bangkok on Bangkok Airways.

4. Ayutthaya

Before Bangkok was founded, Ayutthaya reined as the Kingdom's capital city for over four hundred years. Ongoing war with the Burmese put an end to what was then considered one of the most beautiful and cosmopolitan cities in the world but ruins of the city's many temples can be visited on an easy day trip from Bangkok.

5. Bangkok

Bangkok's historic center is home to some of the country's most important sights, including the Grand Palace and Wat Po. Just over 200 years ago, Bangkok was a small trading town, but after Ayutthaya was sacked by the Burmese, a retreating general arrived to rebuild the Kingdom of Thailand. Soon after that the Rama Kingdom was established and reigns to this day. Most of Bangkok's historic sights are clustered in the Old City and shouldn't be missed.

Dubai – Tallest Or Maybe The Most Expensive Building In World

Posted: 10 May 2012 12:52 AM PDT

Dubai – Tallest Or Maybe The Most Expensive Building In World | Dubai is the proud owner of the tallest building ever built. Burj Dubai measures 828 meters, estimated at a cost of 1.5 thousand million dollars. It's the new symbol of the country and it is eight and a half times taller than the Big Ben, five times than the Pyramid of Keops and almost double than the Empire State Building.

The 160 storey building is visible from anywhere in an area within 95 kilometers. Its inauguration overtook everything so far: fireworks lighted from all around, on and off the building, water jets dancing in the rhythm of the music played, lasers, a spectacle of sound and light.

This wonder of modern architecture includes over 1100 flats, numerous offices, stores, restaurants and the lower part includes a luxurious hotel.

The raising of this edifice started in January 2004 and lasted 22 millions of hours, the estimated water consumption is approximately 1 million liters daily and the temperature at the last level is 10 degrees lower than on the ground floor.

If it were to clean the outside part of the building it will last from three to four months at a non stop working program.

Gardens of Marqueyssac

Posted: 09 May 2012 09:31 PM PDT

Gardens of Marqueyssac – The Marqueyssac gardens is located in France. The charm of the terrace gardens has delighted its visitors for the last three centuries and Marqueyssac has become one of France's most beautiful Italian-style gardens. The gardens of Marqueyssac castle consist of over six kilometres of shaded alleys, edged by 150,000 hand-pruned, one hundred year-old box-trees, rockeries, waterways, grassy clearings, dry-stone huts, rotunda, a Gothic chapel, and playgrounds for the children.

In front of the 18th century chateau, the main terrace is arranged in a geometric pattern which symbolises the symmetry of the two main bodies of the castle. Built with great simplicity, the chateau is topped by a roof made of limestone slabs, typical of Périgord.

The spectacular bastion terrace is made up of numerous box-trees four gardening employees of the estate, with cypress trees also giving structure to the landscape. The box-trees are all sculpted in curves to mimic the roundness of the surrounding hills and it can be rather enjoyable to get lost along the winding paths of this green labyrinth.

Julien de Cerval dedicated the last 30 years of his life to create a haven of peace in Marqueyssac by transforming the estate he inherited in 1861 into a beautiful residence and a utopian garden. He was a passionate gardener and a great expert of Italian-style gardens and agronomy, which he marvellously recreated in Marqueyssac, with its terraces and ornamental trees such as cypress, elm, Judas, umbrella and lime. Julien de Cerval designed this garden for his own personal enjoyment, to write poems in it amongst this romantic site dominated by a soft, fresh green and the delicate perfume of box-trees, santolina, rosemary and lavender.

Visitors can stroll around the gardens without a guide thanks to illustrated signs and panels which provide information throughout the park. It is also possible to follow a guide for no extra cost between the months of April and September. The domain also features a boutique and a "salon de thé" (open from Easter to the end of October) which both offer spectacular views over Beynac Castle.
