[A/S] Progress and a couple questions/cat travel

We always travel with 1 or 2 cats (NOT always the same 1's). I will say right now, that I would be happier if they could stay home & they would be too !!!

However, with 6 "senior" cats, there always seem to be 1 or 2 on meds & those travel with us. The biggest issue is the ride in the truck -- all my cats hate it !! Bought some Rescue Remedy which our Airstream friend & vet recommended (Twila, are you here tonight?) & that's helped a lot. Plus, since cats seem to need to go more frequently than dogs when stressed, we are very careful to let them visit to the litter box every couple of hours on route -- sometimes we let them out in the trailer while we are eating or sightseeing but most of the time, we keep a litter box w/o a cover on the backseat floor of our truck. When letting them out in the truck, we are careful to hook a leash to their harnesses (we bought "cat" harnesses) so they can't "escape" under a seat or anywhere else ! I would suggest letting them to get used to wearing a harness while at home.

Once in the Airstream, ours roam for several hours & then settle down. Of course, we are very, very careful about "escapes" out the main door. We never just throw open the door whether coming in or going out -- we crack it to be sure a cat isn't making an escape (ours will). We also keep our door locked all the time in case "friends" open feel the urge to come in ! We keep the toilet seat down all the time too. And, since we have a vintage (newer Airstreams may not have this problem), we keep any "inside" lower cabinet doors securely closed because these lower cabinets also have a door that opens to the "outside" of the trailer.

If we have visitors, both kitties are put back into their carrier -- they are happier & we are more at ease ! Had cats all my life & generally speaking, you DON'T want 1 to escape because they will probably be terrified, run away, & won't come when called.

As I said, I would be happier if the kitties could stay at home -- and so would they !!! Maybe if they had started traveling when they were kittens, it would be easier but knowing & loving cats, I doubt it !
