RE: [A/S] locked out Help!

Hello to all. About 1 week ago I shut the door of my '68 GT AS. It was not
locked. The door knob just turns on its' axis never moving the throw. Could
someone in the group give me some guidance in opening the door? Then I will
buy a new one from Vintage Trailer Supply. Many thanks and safe travels to
all that are on the road this weekend. Kevin

Hi Kevin,

That lock is called a Bargman L-100 & is obsolete & VTS doesn't have them
anymore as far as I know. The first thing to try is to push on the handle as
you're turning it. This may allow the mechanism to catch. The next option is
to get into your trailer somehow, ie window, hatch etc & try the handle from
the inside. It should work. Once you've got the door open, remove to two
screws holding the inside handle assembly to the main assembly, then remove
the two screws next to the striker. This will allow you to remove the
complete door handle assembly. What has likely happened is that the screw in
the center of the exterior handle has come loose, allowing the handle to
move outward slightly. This screw is accessible through the center of the
mechanism. Once this happens the handle "arm" (for lack of a better word)
becomes offset slightly & does not come in contact with the cam that
actually pulls on the striker. I realize this sounds pretty convoluted, but
all of it will only take about 10 minutes, once you get inside the trailer.

Good luck,

Colin
