Let me check with my customs broker, at work. I have zero idea what I
would need to do, to return the trailer to the US. Given it is a US made
product, I would expect this would be simple. However, nothing is ever
simple when the US Customs Service is involved.

You won't need a broker to import the trailer. You can do it personally by just showing up at the border with the ownership docs & a bill of sale. Customs will give you a pink import doc showing that you have paid any appropriate fees & you take all of these docs, along with a weigh slip to your local DMV. It's not a big deal.
