| Family Friendly Holiday Destinations in the Algarve Posted: 07 Jun 2012 06:13 PM PDT Family Friendly Holiday Destinations in the Algarve | The Algarve continues to be one of the cheapest holiday destinations in Europe. It's also blessed with many hours of sunshine, a warm but not oppressive climate, outstanding sandy beaches that stretch for miles and miles and enough off-beach entertainment to keep even the most restless children amused. It is for these reasons it's such a popular family holiday destination. On The Beach offers a variety of Algarve holidays to Albufeira, Cabanas and Praia da Luz. Each of these destinations has something unique to offer, so let's take a closer look at what you and your family can get up to in these Algarve destinations. Albufeira With an uninterrupted 20-mile stretch of sandy beach the obvious draw to Albufeira is the beach. However, the town itself is pretty too with 18th and 19th century churches and monuments, cobbled streets and pastel coloured buildings. For children, there are numerous water sports activities to try with dingy sailing and windsurfing being the two most popular. Cabanas There are few resorts in the Algarve that remain completely untouched and 100% traditional, but Cabanas is as close as they come. This sleepy fishing village just 20 minutes from Faro airport is charming and unspoilt. It boasts sheltered coves and bays thanks to a dusting of small, outlaying islands, but much of the fun happens on dry land, with horse riding, mountain biking, hiking and tennis all on offer. If you want some culture, the 16th century church in nearby Tavira is a must see. Praia da Luz Unlike many other resorts in the Algarve, Praia da Luz doesn't have a hectic and loud nightlife. It is a truly relaxed family resort with pleasant restaurants, a sweeping sandy beach and plenty of child-friendly activities. From horse riding on the beach to hanging out in the dolphinarum of the local water park, kids will be hard pushed to get bored. Day trips to the nearby Sao Joao National Park are also worthwhile and this stunning woodland is the perfect spot for a family picnic. The town itself is pretty too, with cobbled streets and Roman remains making it the perfect all-round destination for Algarve holidays.

| Santorini: An Island Break with a Difference Posted: 07 Jun 2012 05:35 PM PDT Santorini: An Island Break with a Difference | This year, holiday makers with a political conscience are choosing to go to Greece. Not only is tourism one of the major components of the Greek economy, it stands to lose out to some of the bad press that Greece has been suffering throughout the eurozone over the past few months. In order to help Greece get back on its feet, we can help by making our holiday choices count. But beyond from politics, the euro and economic recovery, there are plenty of other reasons to book a break in Santorini this year. It's no surprise that, this summer, there are a great number of bargain deals to be found on Santorini holidays. Whether you are looking for a tailor made holiday to fit your own spec booking through online travel sites such as OnTheBeach.co.uk or whether you would prefer to go for an all-inclusive package deal, there are a host of price cuts and last minute discounts to take advantage of this year. And once you're arrangements are in order you're sure to find plenty to do.
For those seeking a romantic excursion, it might be useful to learn that Santorini is one of the Greek islands most famed for its spectacular sunsets. Though be careful where you choose to spectate. In some towns the sun will vanish behind the island's volcano before you can see it meet the horizon. But in the sweet little town of Fira, perched on the edge of an imposing cliff, you can head down to the beach and indulge in a fresh sea-food dinner before watching the sun sink down among the waves. One of the great pleasures of Santorini is, undoubtedly, the culture of fine cuisine and hospitality. Order up mixed platters of mezze to try a wide variety of local delicacies and be sure to take your waiter's recommendations when it comes to choosing wine. What's more, there are plenty of small tavernas on hand where a slap up meal won't break the bank. Stopping for sweet greek coffee between historical visits or fueling up at lunch after a morning of water sports is a great way to get a keener sense of the culture of Santorini.
