Re: [A/S] AC repair needed

Well, thanks to all who chimed in to help me with this AC problem. The weather was awful yesterday and after many phone calls and conversations with the park manager (and my neighbor) they convinced me it was probably a freeze-up. After leaving it off most of the day, and checking the voltage at the pole, inside the coach, at my neighbor's pole and also at a pole where nobody was hooked up (these are all 30 amp as there is no 50 amp in this section) and finding it all except the empty slot (which was 120v) around 115v, I turned the AC on again late afternoon and it started blowing cold air again. The condensate pipe was flowing freely. It managed to stay on all night but this morning was starting to freeze up again. Luckily we had a front move in overnight and the temps are much cooler, so the unit is resting while I pack up and head to Montana later this morning.

In all the travels I did last fall and earlier this summer when I had the AC running full tilt (there is no auto switch---it is either high, med or low, and no external thermostat`--- I have never had this happen, so I was not convinced it had, but my neighbor with the big 5th wheel and using his 30 amp (they have only one AC unit) was doing fine with his cooling. He blew a breaker when his wife turned on her hair dryer, but apparently that happens often. He reset it and all was normal, and he used my killawatt and came up with 115 v inside his trailer as well.

So....based on that info, was it a simple freeze up, and is there a way to prevent it? As David has pointed out, this is a ceiling unit with the switches on the ceiling, not the wall, and there is no thermostat. It was an entry level Airstream in so many ways.....

It is 61 degrees this morning and I am a much nicer person when I'm not melting, and the critters are comfy too. I'm not sure if blizzards or heat waves are worse when traveling, but I'm starting to think I handle blizzards better....

P.S. I am still going to buy that amp converter the first place I can find one.
